Animal Education

Save-A-Pet is a non-profit organization. Our mission is to alleviate the suffering of all animals through education, intervention and spay/neutering.

We would like to take this opportunity to let all Suffolk County Schools know that we offer humane education presentations. Each presentation is geared to appeal to the age and level of understanding of the target audience. Scout groups, youth groups, preschool's and any other organizations are also invited to contact us.

Humane Education Program

The Humane Education Program is about learning to respect life in our homes, communities and the environment. It encourages kindness and empathy for both human and nonhuman animals, and promotes understanding of our many diverse habitats. Sharing the love of animals also includes awareness of animal overpopulation and the reason for neutering and spaying. Most importantly, humane education strives to establish a sense of responsibility, making the world a better, more humane place.

Assemblies

We can tailor our site visits to suit large, assembly style meetings as well. Simply tell us what you need, and we'll arrange a suitable visit. Career Day Many schools, especially at the Elementary and Junior High levels, have a Career Day. Students at this point can greatly benefit from direction and instruction in the available animal welfare careers available. One of our instructors will keep them current on the trends in the animal shelters, educational opportunities and tips on how to prepare for a fulfilling career working with animals.

Field Trips to an Animal Shelter

A visit to our animal shelter is a powerful experience. Spend an hour with one of our instructors and find about how "people help animals and animals help people" here at Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue. Students enjoy a behind-the-scenes peek at some special areas, as well as a chance to meet and pet some of the animals that live here.

Site Visits - We Come to You, or You Come to Us! Want to wow your class with a more personal animal encounter? We'll bring a rescued dog to give your students some hands-on learning experiences. A great way to enhance lessons on classification, pet care/responsibility, habitats, or communication, but we can also adapt our presentation to fit the theme of your choice. Program lasts up to forty five minutes including a question and answer period.

Community Service for Kids

Many school clubs require children to complete community service hours. Let our Jr. Volunteer Coordinator help to set up a program specially designed for children. Click here to request information.
